Learn to Swim This Summer: Our 2026 Courses in Vienna
Schwimmsport Steiner

When the temperatures rise, swimming becomes not just a pleasure, but one of the most important safety skills for families. The summer holidays are the ideal setting for it: no school, more time, more water.
Below is an overview of what we've prepared at Schwimmschule Steiner for summer 2026 – and how to find the right course for yourself or your child.

Why Intensive Courses During the Holidays?

Intensive swim courses differ from a regular weekly course in one decisive aspect: frequency
Going into the water on several consecutive days builds feel for the water, muscle memory and self-confidence noticeably faster than when a full week passes between sessions. With beginners – both children and adults – the difference is often visible after just a few days.

The format is therefore particularly suited to:

  • Children working towards a swimming badge in a compact timeframe
  • Adults who want to finally learn to swim, or pick it back up after a long pause
  • More advanced swimmers who want to focus on front crawl technique and endurance

Two Locations, Two Weekly Rhythms

In summer 2026, our courses again take place at our two established locations in Vienna – each with a different concept, so there's something to fit any family schedule.

Bad des Bundesblindeninstituts (BBI)

At the BBI, we offer compact morning blocks Monday to Friday. Ideal for anyone who can dedicate a full holiday week to swimming without distractions. The two summer blocks start on 6 July and 13 July 2026.

Available levels: Beginner II, Improver I, Improver II, Front Crawl Basics, and Front Crawl Mastery.

Wiener Stadthallenbad

At the Stadthallenbad, the programme is more extensive and spread across the summer: a total of five course weeks between late June and early September. This makes it easy to plan your swim course around a family holiday.

  • from 29 June 2026 – last school week
  • from 4 July 2026 – first holiday week
  • from 11 July 2026 – second holiday week
  • from 24 August 2026 – second-to-last holiday week
  • from 31 August 2026 – final holiday week

Sessions run on weekday afternoons and Saturday mornings. Since exact times vary from week to week, they're listed directly with each course in the booking system.

Available levels: Beginner I, Beginner II, Improver I, Improver II, Advanced (Children and Teens), Adult Beginners, and Front Crawl Mastery.

Swimming Badge: Examination Date in July

If you'd like to take a swimming badge assessment this summer, the date to mark is Saturday, 11 July 2026. The next examination date won't follow until early September. For children who complete an intensive course in the holiday week beforehand, the July date is a natural way to round things off – early registration is strongly recommended.

Which Course Is Right for You?

A rough guide:

  • Never swum before? → Beginner I (for children from water-acclimatisation age, at the Stadthallenbad)
  • A few first strokes already? → Beginner II
  • Confident over short distances? → Improver I or II
  • Solid swimmer looking to learn a new stroke? → Front Crawl Basics
  • Looking to refine your front crawl technique? → Front Crawl Mastery

If you're unsure which level is right for you or your child, each course in our booking system comes with a short description of the entry requirements.

Registration & Waiting List

Online registration for all summer 2026 courses is now open. From experience, beginner courses fill up especially quickly – if you have a particular date in mind, we'd recommend booking promptly.
If your preferred course is already full, our free waiting list is well worth using: in the event of a cancellation, you'll automatically move up and be notified by phone.
